79 shovel build
here i decided to get started on rebuilding the rear end. We went with the Avon MKII SM. This is a much taller tire then what was on it and since we welded the fender to the sissy bar last time I wanted to bolt it to the fender, plus I had to raise it for the taller tire. Also I forgot to mention before, we started this build by completely tearing the bike down and having the frame and other parts powder coated. SISSY BAR!!! This has been a battle!! I don't mind the rebar sissy bar. My brother loves it, but Scott "T-bone" jones of noise cycles (who me and brother grew up with and have been good friends with ever since) HATES IT!!!!! My ideah is to chrome it. I think it will look pretty good like that. I gota say though... I love it that my bro is finally getting into street bikes and this being his first, I am honored to be the one to build it. Me and Chad (my brother) and Tbone all grew up together riding dirt bikes but me and Tbone were the ones that were always into old harley's and other vintage bikes. Having him join us is kickass!!!
79 shovel build
I rebuilt the flywheels. I had to R&R the rear connect rod and bearings. Reassembled the bottom end and installed in frame. I installed the tranny to get the rear wheel alignment because my brother got wheels that are not made for this bike. I also installed it so i could install inner primary to get tranny and engine alignment, then torqued the engine down.
79 shovel build
this is my brothers 79 shovel head Im building. I built this bike around 6 years ago for my friend chris. He wrecked it. The bike flipped onto it's right side and smashed the carb. the rear cylinder loaded with fuel and caused a hydrolock explosion. The rear psiton was hanging out of the jug!! After the wreck he didn't know what he wanted to do with it. Finally he said "lets sell it" My brother bought it and now we are doing a whole new build!!
